Helene Amses lives and creates in Vermont.

My current focus has been on exploring the passage of time etched on a variety of surfaces, inscribed by the natural elements of tides and currents; sunshine and wind; erosion and decomposition. All contribute to an amalgamation of forms, colors, textures and movement, frequently off the beaten path but often in plain sight, waiting to be discovered. Beginning with boat hulls, beached on Cape Cod, my fascination took flight: fishing fleets in Morocco and Ecuador; freight cars in Montpelier; scraped guard rails; piers, pilings and seawalls; and weathered Vermont barns. I imagine these varied surfaces on a journey as are each of us, with my camera capturing one, single, surprising moment of that evolution, an unexpected interpretation as a work of art.
